What a fucking piece of shit GOP asshole
In a statement shared with the Associated Press late on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the GOP candidate’s campaign said Acton’s mother didn’t receive any payment to appear in the ad.
The spokesperson added that Ramaswamy’s campaign also plans to spend $4 million air the ad online and on TV in the run-up to election day next month.
The ad features a woman who introduces herself as Donna Arthur, Acton’s mother, and says: “I love my daughter, but when I saw her lying about her opponent—and it’s not easy for a mother to say this—but Amy has a serious problem.”
The woman in the ad calls Acton a “liar” and adds, “She lies about her past. She says she grew up living in a tent. None of that is true. She’s lied her entire life,” before urging Ohioans not to “let her become your governor” and warning them, “if you think she’ll make your life better, you’re fooling yourself. It will only get worse.”
Even before Ramaswamy’s campaign took responsibility, the Democratic candidate’s campaign issued a statement from her brother, Phillip Stearns, accusing her rival of stooping to “such a despicable low as to attempt to turn the sexual abuse Amy endured at twelve years old from our birth mother’s husband into a political talking point.”
Stearns’ statement added that their mother “stayed married to Amy’s rapist until he died.”
Acton has previously spoken about her troubled childhood—the Youngstown Vindicator reported in 2019, shortly after she was appointed as state health director by former GOP Gov. Mike DeWine, that her stepfather sexually abused her as a child and that she and her brother moved “18 or so” times before the age of 12, including living in a tent in a campground one winter, while under their mother’s care.
